The Rangers Won't be Having Fun, in The Warm California Sun

I was initially going to wait until after tonight's game between the Angels and the Texas Rangers to write; usually the game provides me a few themes to choose from and then I write about the most interesting one, however, today the Texas Rangers' fans have already done that for me.

While I was doing by morning rounds in the Major League Baseball blogosphere I came across an entry by a Rangers' fan who is hoping, like most Rangers' fans are hoping to sweep the Angels and open a 7 1/2 game lead in the American League West. It is natural for a fan base to have faith in their team, I wouldn't expect anything less and truth be told I would be acting this same way if we were in first place. I completely respect die-hard fans and their faith in their team, a 7 1/2 game lead? Really? Do they honestly think that they can sweep the Angels? They may be ahead of us, but that's because they've been on a winning streak. It's time for Rangers' fans come down to earth.

They seem to forget that we have been here before, with the Oakland Athletics, we're used to division battles and they are not, the characters might have changed, but the game and the winner remains same. I remind the Rangers' fans of 2002, the Oakland Athletics won the American League West with a Major League Baseball record 20 game win streak, but in the end it was the Angels who won the World Series.

The Rangers are a very talented team, and I'm not under estimating them in the least, I don't expect the Angels to sweep the Rangers, but I certainly don't expect the Angels to be swept by the Rangers either. All I have to say is welcome wild wild American League West, Rangers this is what the party is all about, bring all that you have in your arsenal, because you are going to need it, the Angels will not roll over, we have been here before, we know what it takes to win, and when the smoke clears, the best team will win, and that team is and will always be the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim!
